Police in Senegal have conducted several operations targeting theft and fraud. In Cité Fadia, authorities dismantled an organized crime group following a crowd gathering after a motorcycle theft. The operation, which took place in an apartment rented by a foreign military member, led to the arrest of seven individuals and the seizure of Indian hemp, bladed weapons, and stolen motorcycle equipment.

In ZAC Mbao, authorities arrested a suspect linked to a recurring scooter theft scheme. The individual allegedly responded to online advertisements and requested test rides of Yamaha and Beverly scooters before fleeing with the vehicles. Upon his arrest near the Sedima roundabout, investigators reportedly found 1,455,100 francs CFA in his possession.

In Rufisque, a telecommunications agent was detained for fraudulent access to a computer system and the theft of 707,000 FCFA from a customer’s mobile money account through unauthorized SIM card duplication. While the suspect confessed and returned the stolen funds, the employer is pursuing legal action for financial and moral damages.

Regarding digital security, Commissioner Ibrahima Dieng of the Direction de l’Automatisation des Fichiers (DAF) addressed a recent cyberattack. While acknowledging an intrusion into the system, Dieng assured the public that sensitive data, including national identity and electoral files, remained intact, noting that security measures have since been strengthened to combat identity fraud.

Additionally, the Mobile Brigade for Economic Control and Fraud Repression (BMCRF) conducted operations in Ouagadougou to combat price speculation in the motorcycle sector. Authorities closed several points of sale for failing to display prices and using unauthorized intermediaries to inflate costs.
