The body of 31-year-old Balram Rajbanshi, who had been bedridden for several years, was discovered by his mother in a home that appeared to have been ransacked. Authorities noted visible injuries on the deceased and are reviewing CCTV footage to determine if the death was linked to the robbery. In early October 2026, an investigation was launched in the Entally area of Kolkata following the discovery of app cab driver Bhagwan Prasad Gupta, aged 44 or 45, dead inside his vehicle. Local residents raised suspicions after noticing the vehicle had been stationary for an extended period. Upon police arrival, the vehicle was found locked from the inside, requiring a mechanic to break the lock to access the interior. The victim was found with blood stains on his face and his legs tied with rope. Investigators from the Kolkata Police Homicide Department, Detective Department, and Scientific Wing have secured the scene. While authorities have not officially confirmed murder, they are investigating all possibilities, including personal enmities, as they await post-mortem results and review CCTV footage to identify the last person seen with Gupta on Tuesday night. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-07: Kolkata police investigate death of cab driver found tied inside vehicle Police in Kolkata are investigating the death of app cab driver Bhagwan Prasad Gupta, whose body was found with legs tied and blood on his face inside a vehicle locked from the inside. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kolkata-app-cab-driver-found-dead-with-body-tied-inside-vehicle ### 2026-09-20: Baguiati robbery investigation follows discovery of man's body Police are investigating a suspected murder and robbery in Baguiati, Kolkata, after the body of 31-year-old Balram Rajbanshi was found in his ransacked home. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/baguiati-robbery-investigation-follows-discovery-of-mans-body --- Cite as: Criminal investigations in Kolkata.
