Authorities in Rio de Janeiro have made progress in two separate investigations involving violent crimes.

In Magé, police arrested Thiago Jesus da Conceição Martins, an alleged member of the Comando Vermelho faction, following a shootout in the Barbuda neighborhood. Martins is a suspect in the December 2024 murder of Sergeant Alisson Sturião de Araújo, who was killed while off duty. During the arrest, officers seized a firearm, ammunition, and mobile phones.

In a separate case, investigators identified military police officer Renato Franco Lopes as a participant in the February 2024 assassination of lawyer Rodrigo Marinho Crespo. Crespo was shot multiple times near the Rio de Janeiro Bar Association headquarters. Lopes was arrested in August 2026 after authorities utilized telemetric data analysis to link him to the crime.
