The incident occurred just before a UEFA Nations League match against Denmark, following a previous match against Norway where Ronaldo remained on the bench. Reports indicate Ronaldo left the camp after a press conference by coach Jorge Jesus and discussions with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Pinto. Ronaldo reportedly felt betrayed by the coach after a promised public apology failed to materialize. Ronaldo has stated he will eventually reveal ‘the truth’ regarding his departure. The situation prompted high-level political involvement. Prime Minister Luís Montenegro reportedly intervened to seek clarity by communicating with Ronaldo, Jesus, and Pinto.
