The Croatian government has mandated incremental increases to the base salary for public service employees, including primary and secondary school staff. 

Following a failure to reach an agreement with representative public service unions, the government implemented a three-step structure throughout 2026, with each increment amounting to one percent. After an initial increase in April, the base salary was raised to 1,025 euros gross effective August 1. A final increase is scheduled for December 1, which will raise the base to 1,035 euros gross.
