The Croatian National Theatre (HNK) has launched new ballet productions in Osijek and Split.

In Osijek, the HNK premiered a production of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ to mark its 120th theatrical season. This four-act production was a co-production with the Austrian company Europaballett, combining local performers with Europaballett soloists to present the classical work.

In Split, the HNK premiered the ballet ‘Zorba the Greek,’ directed and choreographed by Staša Zurovac. While the musical performances by the orchestra, choir, and soloists received high praise for their professional quality, the production faced negative critical reception regarding its choreography and direction.
