Croatian vocal and klapa groups have demonstrated international presence through competition success and cultural gatherings.

In late August, Croatian ensembles achieved recognition at international festivals. The Karlovac-based choir PHZP ‘Zora’ performed at the Prague Music Festival in the Czech Republic. Additionally, the groups Umole and Klapa Fjok secured gold medals at the ‘Chorus inside’ international choral competition in Portorož, earning invitations to participate in a future festival in Palermo.

In late September, the focus shifted toward cultural preservation through the 4th Meeting of Croatian Klapa Groups from Outside the Republic of Croatia in Split. Organized by the Croatian Diaspora Matica and the City of Split under the patronage of the Croatian Government, the event brought together nine international klapa groups from countries including Montenegro, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Hungary, Serbia, and Argentina. 

The gathering held special significance as the Croatian Diaspora Matica celebrated its 75th anniversary. During the ceremony, director Zdeslav Milas emphasized the importance of third and fourth-generation descendants preserving the unique klapa tradition while living abroad. Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta reaffirmed the city’s commitment to supporting such events, noting that Split and Dalmatia serve as the ‘cradle of klapa music.’
