Authorities in Côte d’Ivoire have launched a judicial investigation into approximately ten social media influencers and public figures suspected of participating in a large-scale real estate fraud and money laundering scheme. The investigation focuses on Rita Djédjé, known as ‘Maman Na Caï Caï’, and her company, Ivoire Challenge Corporation SARL.

Prosecutors allege the group defrauded roughly sixty complainants of more than 320 million FCFA by selling land parcels that the sellers did not own. Several high-profile individuals, including Apoutchou National and former footballer Geoffroy Serey Dié, have been implicated for allegedly using their influence to vouch for the projects or using messaging groups to collect funds.

Legal charges being pursued include criminal conspiracy, forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering. The crackdown follows Côte d’Ivoire’s 2024 inclusion on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.
