The municipal service company Limpurb, in partnership with the Government of Mato Grosso, is implementing the ‘Programa Ilumina+ Cuiabá’ and ‘MT Iluminado’ programs to modernize public lighting in Cuiabá.

During the first half of 2026, Limpurb conducted 31,795 interventions, including over 14,500 new LED luminaire installations across 232 neighborhoods. Following these broad efforts, the city began a specific initiative in the Santa Terezinha neighborhood to replace 681 metal vapor lamps with high-efficiency LED technology. This localized project, which involves an investment exceeding R$ 300 thousand, aims for 100% coverage in the area by August 25, 2026. Limpurb Director-General Felipe Wellaton stated the modernization aims to improve energy efficiency, public safety, and quality of life. The transition is expected to save approximately R$ 294 thousand annually in the neighborhood.

In mid-August 2026, Mayor Abilio Brunini launched a new phase of the program in the Dom Aquino neighborhood. This phase targets the modernization of 868 public lighting points using 150-watt LED luminaires. Scheduled for completion by September 14, the project utilizes four teams and four trucks. The initiative is expected to reduce monthly energy usage from 55.5 thousand kWh to approximately 20.9 thousand kWh—a 62.3% reduction—resulting in estimated annual savings of R$ 205.5 thousand. Additionally, the project intends to enhance regional security by integrating the ‘Vigia Mais’ video monitoring program.
