Authorities in Cuiabá have initiated several municipal operations focused on urban maintenance and public safety. In mid-October, the City Hall and the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) conducted technical inspections of the city’s Historic Center to assess the structural integrity of old mansions and prevent collapses caused by degradation and abandonment.

Following these efforts, municipal secretariats launched the ‘Ação Mobilidade em Ordem’ initiative in the Pedra 90 and Jardim Industriário neighborhoods to address the irregular occupation of sidewalks and public roads by commercial establishments and junkyards.

In late October, the legal landscape regarding heritage preservation intensified as the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) filed a civil public action against both the municipality and IPHAN. The action, valued at R$ 10.49 million, seeks the restoration of six historical properties, including the Casarão da Funai and Casa do Patrimônio, noting that some renovation efforts have been stalled since 2014.

Concurrently, the city’s administrative oversight has expanded to include scrutiny of public contracts. A Parliamentary Inquiry Committee (CPI) has recommended the annulment of a 30-year contract between the municipality and the concessionaire CS Mobi. The committee cited 40 irregularities, including missing documentation and a lack of budgetary authorization, in an agreement that could involve over R$ 1 billion.
