In September 2026, Mabel Garza Blackaller was appointed director of the Municipal Institute of Culture in Saltillo, Coahuila. Her appointment, approved by the Institute’s Governing Board and Mayor Javier Díaz González, aims to expand cultural activities into neighborhoods and rural areas ahead of the city’s 450th anniversary.

By October 2026, cultural programming in the region continued with Mayor Díaz González inaugurating the state stage of the CECyTE and EMSaD Coahuila Art and Culture Festival. The event involves over 200 students from 20 municipalities participating in various disciplines, such as poetry, painting, and photography, with top performers qualifying for a national stage in Durango.
