Burgos, Spain, has hosted several major academic and cultural gatherings. In September 2026, the city served as a center for scientific research during the European Society for the Study of Human Evolution (ESHE) annual congress, which drew approximately 400 specialists to discuss paleoanthropology, genetics, and archaeology. This was accompanied by the 17th European Researchers’ Night, featuring public outreach activities such as lectures on archaeoastronomy.

Following these scientific events, the city transitioned to a focus on contemporary art with the launch of the I Bienal de Burgos, titled ‘Afluente Panorama’. Running through January 2027, the biennial features works from 38 artists across 21 countries, utilizing various public spaces and historical sites to integrate modern expression with the city’s heritage.
