Chilliwack is preparing for several cultural events in October, most notably the second annual Queer Arts Festival. Held at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre and various local venues, the festival runs from October 3 through Halloween. The programming includes drag performances, a Queer Night Market, wellness workshops, and exhibitions such as ‘Shining with Colours’ at Myth Valley Studio.

Additionally, Heritage Chilliwack will host ‘Uncovering Chinatown’ on October 3 as part of the national Culture Days celebration. This event includes guided walking tours and the installation of four heritage plaques to commemorate the historic Chinese-Canadian business community in the downtown area.

Further community activities scheduled for early October include the fifth annual Orange Shirt Day Powwow at Chilliwack Secondary School on October 2-3. Other local attractions include musical performances at Bozzini’s Upstairs Lounge and Evergreen Hall, alongside seasonal activities at Fantasy Farms.

In tandem with these events, the City of Chilliwack has announced infrastructure improvements beginning in October. Construction on Main Street and Yale Road will involve replacing water, sanitary, and storm main systems. The project also includes reconstructing sections of Main Street, installing new traffic signals at Spadina Avenue, enlarging curb bulges for pedestrian safety, and adding new street trees and ornamental lighting. While underground work commences this October, major concrete and asphalt work is expected in spring 2027, with a projected completion date in summer 2027.
