The Curaçao Football Federation (FFK) stated the extension aims to provide “continuity, stability, and peace” following the team’s historic first FIFA World Cup appearance. Following the extension, tension emerged regarding player Sontje Hansen, who decided to stop playing for the national team for as long as Advocaat remains in charge. Hansen reportedly cited limited playing time during the World Cup as the reason for the departure. Advocaat responded by stating that players must compete for positions, remarking, “If you cannot live with that, you should leave; that is how it works in football.” Advocaat is now focused on preparing the squad for the CONCACAF Nations League matches against Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Trinidad and Tobago. Efforts to strengthen the roster include approaching talents from AZ and PSV, though some young players remain undecided due to potential call-ups from the Netherlands national team. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-22: Dick Advocaat responds to Sontje Hansen leaving Curaçao national team Curaçao coach Dick Advocaat addressed Sontje Hansen's decision to leave the national team and discussed efforts to recruit new talent for the upcoming Nations League. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/dick-advocaat-responds-to-sontje-hansen-leaving-curaao-national-team ### 2026-09-09: Curaçao extends Dick Advocaat's contract until 2027 Dutch coach Dick Advocaat has extended his contract with the Curaçao national football team until July 2027 following the team's historic debut at the World Cup. 11 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/dick-advocaat-extends-curaao-national-team-coaching-contract --- Cite as: Curaçao national football team coaching stability.
