In Ghana, the Bono East Regional Police Command arrested two individuals following an intelligence-led operation at Jema on September 1, 2026. Authorities intercepted a vehicle traveling from Nalerigu toward Kumasi that was carrying contraband, including 321 boxes of foreign cigarette brands and 100 containers of a substance suspected to be sodium cyanide.

The suspected cyanide was being transported alongside various food products, including maize, soya beans, groundnut husks, and millet. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Ghana Standards Authority have collected samples of the chemical for laboratory testing. The driver and his mate remain in custody as investigations continue to identify the source of the consignment.
