Cybersecurity threats in Latin America are evolving, with a significant focus on the financial and insurance sectors. The region accounts for approximately 12% of global cyber-attacks, with Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina experiencing nearly 44% of these incidents.

As attackers increasingly bypass technical vulnerabilities using stolen or legitimate credentials, regional enterprises are shifting toward identity protection. In Brazil, more than 60% of companies have increased or intend to increase investments in digital identity security. Brasscom estimates that cybersecurity investments in Brazil will exceed R$100 billion by 2028. To address these needs, providers are expanding partner ecosystems to offer solutions like Privileged Access Management (PAM), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and Single Sign-On (SSO). However, experts note that nine out of ten organizations struggle to manage multiple security tools due to integration issues and operational costs, creating blind spots in threat correlation.

Simultaneously, cybercrime is increasingly targeting citizens through social engineering and impersonation. In Argentina, scammers are posing as PAMI representatives via WhatsApp to target retirees. Mexico has seen a rise in fraudulent educational websites and “caller ID spoofing” used to impersonate banks. In Colombia, authorities are combating fake travel agencies, while “task scams” on Telegram continue to target users. Additionally, ransomware attacks, such as the one targeting the municipal government of San Luis Potosí, highlight the ongoing risk to administrative and taxpayer data.
