The cybersecurity community in Argentina has engaged in various organized activities. Initially, the Hackers Argentinos community held its first in-person gathering in a public plaza, bringing together approximately 50 specialists to discuss ethical hacking and legal frameworks.

This momentum led to the 22nd edition of Ekoparty, a major Latin American cybersecurity conference held from October 7–9 at the Buenos Aires Convention Center. Under the theme ‘Embrace the Chaos’, the event returned to its founding city in Argentina following a previous edition in Miami.

The conference addressed the complexities of an interconnected world, specifically focusing on vulnerabilities in artificial intelligence, large language models, facial recognition, and automated decision-making systems. Participants investigated risks to critical infrastructure, transportation, and consumer devices, while examining the impact of hyper-surveillance on privacy and identity.

The three-day event included technical talks, workshops, and art exhibitions. Specialized ‘villages’ allowed participants to explore disciplines ranging from automotive security to the integrity of public water systems. A new ‘Peer 2 Peer’ village highlighted technological subcultures such as electronics repair and electronic art. Additionally, the collective Cybercirujas participated to highlight efforts to combat planned obsolescence through technology reuse.
