In Cyprus, lawmakers and education officials are addressing systemic issues within the national education system. The Parliamentary Committee on Education has called for a radical overhaul of the school assistant system for children with disabilities, citing low wages, staff shortages, and a lack of personalized support. Stakeholders have proposed restructuring recruitment processes and establishing a clearer legislative framework to ensure adequate preparation for the school year.

In response to broader educational challenges, Minister of Education, Sport and Youth Athina Michaelidou has outlined a systematic reform plan. This initiative aims to upgrade public education by focusing on teacher appointments, evaluation processes, curricula, and teaching approaches. The Minister stated that the reforms are driven by scientific research and political will, with the goal of improving learning outcomes and preparing for international assessments such as PISA 2028.
