Tensions between the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Greek Cypriot administration have escalated over sovereignty and diplomatic recognition. TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has rejected demands from Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodulides regarding the return of Varosha, labeling such statements as ‘provocative, untrue, and hostile.’ Üstel asserted that the existence of two sovereign states is an undeniable reality.

Following these disputes, Üstel accused the Greek Cypriot administration of implementing systematic policies to isolate the Turkish Cypriot community. He cited specific incidents, such as attempts to block an international music event in Kyrenia and efforts to obstruct diplomatic meetings involving TRNC officials.

Additionally, the TRNC leadership expressed opposition to using the Immovable Property Commission as a political tool against the local economy. Üstel maintained that the presence of Turkish troops and Turkey’s role as a guarantor remain non-negotiable for regional security.
