The Czech education system continues to face intense debate regarding fiscal management, curriculum stability, and resource allocation. As negotiations for the 2027 budget progress, the Teachers’ Platform Kaderka has criticized the government’s proposed budget of 287.9 billion CZK. Critics argue this figure is significantly lower than the 334 billion CZK required to meet OECD spending targets, potentially causing the share of education spending relative to GDP to decline from 3.52% to 3.38%.

This fiscal shortfall poses a direct threat to previous commitments regarding educator compensation. While the government has aimed to raise average teacher salaries to 75,000 CZK by 2029, current projected increases of only 3–4% are viewed as insufficient to reach that target.

New tensions have emerged regarding the Framework Educational Programme (RVP), the fundamental document defining basic education. Critics suggest that Minister of Education Robert Plaga’s characterization of the RVP as a ‘least essential document’ could undermine trust in the curriculum revision process.

Additionally, political debate has intensified over state contributions to non-public schools. Renáta Zajíčková, the ODS shadow Minister of Education, has criticized Prime Minister Andrej Babiš’s questioning of subsidies for private and religious schools. Zajíčková warned that cutting these funds could lead to a collapse in educational capacity, noting that non-public schools provide 17% of national secondary school capacity. The ODS estimates that replacing these institutions with new public capacity could require investments of up to 200 billion CZK.
