Sources: 6. Developments: 2. Czech national parks are facing sustainability challenges related to high tourist volumes and long-standing disputes over deadwood management. To address these issues, Minister of the Environment Igor Červený established a working group to focus on making tourism more sustainable and resolving environmental management debates that have persisted for nearly thirty years. The scope of the initiative has expanded to include fire prevention strategies necessitated by droughts and changing climatic conditions. Led by Vladimír Vlček, the working group is tasked with determining appropriate deadwood levels, improving early fire detection, increasing water availability for firefighting, and managing access roads. Additionally, the group aims to mitigate overcrowding in specific locations like Krkonoše National Park. Minister Červený intends to present a strategy to the government for integration into the Nature and Landscape Protection Act, with legislative amendments expected in the second quarter of next year. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Czech Ministry of the Environment targets national park fire prevention The Czech Ministry of the Environment is forming a working group to improve fire prevention in national parks by managing dead wood and enhancing emergency response infrastructure. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/czech-ministry-of-the-environment-targets-national-park-fire-prevention ### 2026-10-04: Czech national parks face tourism and deadwood management issues Czech Minister Igor Červený is forming a working group to address tourism overcrowding and deadwood management in national parks to ensure long-term sustainability. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/czech-national-parks-face-tourism-and-deadwood-management-issues --- Cite as: Czech national park management and sustainability.
