The Czech Supreme Administrative Court (NSS) dismissed a complaint from the municipality of Chanovice, upholding a decision to establish a survey area at Březový potok. The survey aims to evaluate the feasibility of a deep geological repository for spent nuclear fuel.

This ruling follows a July decision regarding the Hrádek survey area. While local governments in four preliminary candidate locations have challenged the Ministry of the Environment’s decisions, they have been unsuccessful thus far. The court noted that the current stage is intended to “verify conditions” and does not guarantee future construction. The Radioactive Waste Repository Authority (SÚRAO) established these survey areas in 2024 as part of the Czech Republic’s goal to have a repository operational by 2050.
