The Czech Republic is implementing various social and housing support initiatives at both the national and regional levels.

Nationally, a new preventive housing assistance system was launched on September 1. This system aims to support households facing rising rents or debt before they reach critical instability. Rather than relying solely on cash transfers, the initiative provides subsidized municipal or rental housing and assistance with debt management through a network of local municipalities and the Labor Office.

At the regional level, local governments are investing in specialized residential infrastructure and affordable housing. In the Liberec Region, a 250 million CZK project in Hodkovice is set to begin this autumn. The project will construct energy-efficient, passive-standard homes for up to 48 people, plus protected housing for ten additional clients, with completion targeted for 2028. In the Vysočina Region, authorities approved a memorandum for an 80-bed facility in Úsobí for individuals with chronic mental illnesses, including a day center. This project, expected to be completed around 2030, aims to address waiting lists that currently reach five to ten years.

Urban developments are also expanding. In Brno, the Kamenný vrch project in the Nový Lískovec district has commenced. This development involves 24 buildings containing 353 apartments, with 280 designated for cooperative housing at a rate of 107,839 CZK per square meter to avoid developer margins. Meanwhile, in Lovosice, an EU-supported project will reconstruct a hostel on Nádražní Street into 20 residential units, providing long-term social housing for up to 35 people and accessible ‘starter housing’ to promote social inclusion.
