Data from specific municipalities showed strong results in Vesthimmerland and Kolding. In Vesthimmerland, 94.4 percent of 9th-grade students achieved at least a grade of 02 in Danish and mathematics, exceeding the national average. In Kolding, schools demonstrated a high “lifting capacity,” performing better than expected based on students' socioeconomic backgrounds, with Munkevænget School noted as a top national performer. A subsequent study by the think tank CEPOS analyzed the “teaching effect” across different school types. The report found that private and independent schools generally outperformed public and residential schools in raising student achievement. For example, Herlev Privatskole maintained high rankings for its ability to exceed socioeconomic grade expectations. Conversely, the study noted that 64 percent of independent schools showed a positive teaching effect, compared to 40 percent of public schools, while some specific public schools in Herlev exhibited negative teaching effects. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-08: CEPOS study ranks Danish school performance and teaching effects A CEPOS study finds Danish private schools are more effective at raising student grades relative to socioeconomic backgrounds than public schools, with Herlev Privatskole ranking among the top performers. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cepos-study-ranks-danish-school-performance-and-teaching-effects ### 2026-10-05: Danish municipalities report strong school performance Danish municipalities Vesthimmerland and Kolding report strong school performance, with Vesthimmerland exceeding national exam averages and Kolding showing high academic lifting capacity. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/danish-municipalities-report-strong-school-performance --- Cite as: Danish school academic performance trends.
