Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has addressed the band’s recent musical output and their potential future. Mustaine recently discussed the inclusion of a new version of ‘Ride the Lightning’ on the band’s latest album, noting that the track is not a standard cover because he holds songwriting credits from his time with Metallica. He stated the recording was intended to ‘close the circle’ regarding his history with former bandmates, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.

Regarding the band’s longevity, Mustaine indicated that while their most recent album may be their last, there is a possibility that fans might hear future music derived from existing archives. He explained that the band often records extra riffs and fragments during studio sessions which could eventually be assembled into complete tracks, though he clarified this would not involve new studio sessions.
