Andrés Barquero Dembo, a 44-year-old Venezuelan-born American executive for the pharmaceutical company Sandoz, was found dead in a room at the Sheraton São Paulo WTC hotel in Brazil.

Initial reports indicated that Dembo had informed a colleague of flu-like symptoms before returning to his hotel to rest. While the Civil Police of Brazil registered the case as a “suspicious death” and assigned the investigation to the 96th Police Precinct, preliminary forensic examinations have suggested the death may have been due to natural causes. Investigators noted there were no signs of physical aggression or evidence of a struggle in the hotel room. 

The hotel management has expressed condolences and stated they are cooperating fully with law enforcement. Official causes of death remain pending final forensic reports.
