Brazilian singer, composer, and pianist Benito di Paula died at the age of 84 in São Paulo following a one-year battle with prostate cancer. He passed away at Hospital 9 de Julho.

A major figure in Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), di Paula was known for his ‘samba-joia’ style, which combined traditional samba rhythms with romantic melodies and percussive piano playing. His career included over 35 albums and more than 50 million records sold, featuring hits such as ‘Retalhos de Cetim’ and ‘Mulher Brasileira’.

Following his death, a public wake was held at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo to allow fans and family to pay their respects. He was buried in a private ceremony at Cemitério Morumby.
