After being reported missing, her remains were discovered on September 1 wrapped in a rug and in an advanced state of decomposition. Forensic examinations determined the cause of death was asphyxiation by strangulation. While authorities initially stated there were no signs of sexual violence, an investigation was conducted to determine if the death would be classified as a femicide. On September 5, authorities confirmed the arrest of a suspect identified as Juan “N” in connection with the suspected femicide. The State Attorney General’s office stated the arrest followed an analysis of video recordings from the area where the victim was last seen. Investigators believe Almanza García was killed on August 28 at an establishment on Highway 57 in the state capital before her body was transported by vehicle to the location where it was found.
