Forensic experts from the Paraíba Scientific Police Institute estimated the woman had been deceased for at least one year, noting that her remains were in an advanced state of decomposition and partially skeletonized. Investigators found the home in a state of significant accumulation of dirt and objects. While initial reports from the Military Police suggested the death might have been due to natural causes, investigators found no immediate signs of violence at the scene.

Family members described the deceased as a deaf, independent widow who lived a very private life. Following the death of her partner, she reportedly lived without running water or electricity and avoided contact with relatives. Her remains were subsequently buried in her hometown of Cuité.
