Former Major League Baseball outfielder Butch Huskey has died at the age of 54. Reports indicate he passed away due to a pulmonary embolism, or a “blood clot in his lung.”

Emergency services were dispatched to Huskey’s residence in Lawton, Oklahoma, following reports of chest pain. Although he was alive when transported to a hospital, he ultimately succumbed to the condition. 

Huskey, who played seven seasons in the majors between 1993 and 2000, spent the majority of his career with the New York Mets. He is notably remembered as one of the final players to wear number 42 due to a grandfather clause following the league-wide retirement of the number in honor of Jackie Robinson. In addition to his time with the Mets, Huskey played for the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, and Colorado Rockies.
