On August 31, Waldina Mejía Valle, a 23-year-old member of the Honduran Naval Force, was shot during an incident in the Nueva Aldea sector of Tegucigalpa. Initial reports suggested she was targeted by unidentified individuals during a violent attempt to steal her motorcycle, resulting in wounds to her head and abdomen. She passed away at Hospital Escuela on September 1.

Subsequent investigations by the Technical Criminal Investigation Agency (ATIC) and the Public Ministry shifted the focus of the case. After reviewing surveillance footage, investigators discarded the robbery hypothesis, finding instead that the victim and the suspect were engaged in an argument. 

Authorities have detained National Police officer Emilia Fernanda Rodríguez Armas in connection with the shooting. Ballistic analysis indicated that shell casings found at the scene matched the service weapon assigned to Rodríguez Armas.
