Florence “Flo” Anthony, a pioneering entertainment journalist and media trailblazer, has died at age 74 following a battle with cancer.

Anthony was noted for breaking racial and gender barriers in the media industry. She was the first Black woman to work in the sports department of the New York Post and later became the first Black woman to work on the publication’s Page Six section. Her career included roles as a columnist for the Amsterdam News, a radio host for segments such as “Gossip to Go With Flo,” and a contributor to television programs including “Inside Edition” and “Entertainment Tonight.”

Prior to her journalism career, she served as a sports publicist for prominent athletes such as Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes. An author and biographer, she recently co-authored “Michael ‘Jinx’ Spinks: An Authorized Biography.” She was a graduate of Howard University.
