The Přemyslid dynasty experienced a series of significant declines and eventual collapse through key military and political losses.

In 1278, the death of Přemysl Otakar II at the Battle of Marchfeld against Rudolf I Habsburg signaled a major turning point. This defeat led to territorial instability, including the plundering of Bohemian lands by Brandenburg forces and the taking of his son, Václav, hostage. This period was characterized by political fragmentation and social upheaval.

The dynasty’s male line was ultimately extinguished on 7 August 1306, following the assassination of the 17-year-old King Wenceslaus III in Olomouc. His death ended more than five centuries of rule by the first royal house of Bohemia.
