The Chennai High Court has granted the DMK party permission to pursue defamation lawsuits against Ministers C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar and Adhav Arjuna, along with the party’s IT wing.

The legal action follows allegations made by the ministers and the IT wing concerning the handling of a case involving Veeramani, the owner of Gem Granite, who was detained in a POCSO case. The DMK, represented by General Secretary and former minister Duraimurugan, filed a petition claiming that the ministers spread false information to tarnish the party’s reputation.

The petition clarifies that legal proceedings against Veeramani were initiated immediately following a complaint in October 2025, countering claims that the previous DMK administration failed to act. The DMK is seeking 1.01 crore rupees in damages and has requested the removal of the controversial content from social media platforms. Duraimurugan stated that the court’s decision demonstrates that the judiciary accepts petitions based on “the presence of evidence rather than the identity of the petitioner.”
