Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed has become a focal point of defensive scrutiny within the SEC due to his dual-threat capabilities. Early assessments from SEC defensive coordinators indicated a preference for Reed to act as a traditional passer, noting that his mobility is the “scariest part” for opposing defenses.

As the season progressed, opposing coaches highlighted the difficulty of game planning against him. Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham noted that while Reed is recognized for his athleticism and ability to make plays outside the pocket, he also possesses an “unbelievable touch” on deep and intermediate passes, specifically regarding his ability to execute precise sideline throws.
