The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has introduced a phased ban on the registration of new non-electric commercial vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region to mitigate air pollution. Under the initial regulations, N1 category vehicles (under 3,500 kg) using petrol, diesel, or CNG will be prohibited from registration in Delhi starting January 1, 2027. This restriction will expand to high-density districts such as Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar by July 1, 2027, with the rest of the NCR following by January 1, 2028. N2 category vehicles (3,500 kg to 7,500 kg) face a similar rollout, with Delhi restrictions beginning January 1, 2028, and the full NCR following by January 1, 2029.
