Developments: 2. Desola Afod, the estranged wife of actor Kunle Afod, sparked controversy within the Nigerian film industry after making generalized remarks regarding Nollywood and Yoruba theatre practitioners. The tension arose from Afod’s frustration over perceived disrespect from certain colleagues, which led to public challenges from industry figures such as Wunmi Toriola, who described the comments as insulting to the profession. Following the backlash, Afod issued apologies to the industry. She acknowledged that her remarks were made in anger and that her choice of words was inappropriate. She clarified that her criticisms were intended for specific individuals rather than the entire industry, stating, “Whatever statement I made generally concerning ‘Awon Omo Tiatia’, I hereby retract and take it back. I didn’t mean to generalise or refer to everyone in the industry.” The resolution of the dispute involved interventions from veteran actors, including Afeez Owo, as Afod expressed a desire for forgiveness from senior colleagues and elders. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-13: Desola Afod apologizes to Nollywood after industry controversy Desola Afod has apologized to the Nollywood industry after making controversial remarks about Yoruba actors, following criticism from actress Wunmi Toriola regarding disrespectful generalizations. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/desola-afod-apologizes-to-nollywood-after-industry-controversy ### 2026-10-11: Desola Afod retracts remarks about Nollywood industry Desola Afod, wife of actor Kunle Afod, has retracted generalized criticisms of Nollywood following an intervention by veteran actor Afeez Owo, clarifying her remarks targeted only specific individuals. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/desola-afod-retracts-remarks-about-nollywood-industry --- Cite as: Desola Afod Nollywood controversy.
