Ousseynou Fall, a former military member and Pastef party activist known as ‘Caporal Fall’, has been detained in Senegal on charges of defamation and the dissemination of false news against the Senegalese armed forces.

The legal investigation was triggered by the resurgence of a 2022 video on social media in which Fall commented on the military. As part of the inquiry, journalist Pape Ousmane Cissé, who hosted the original broadcast, was summoned for questioning and subsequently released.

Following Fall’s detention by a judge in Dakar, his father, war veteran Abdoulaye Fall Mao, issued a public apology to the Senegalese people. He stated that his son is under the influence of a ‘dangerous political sect’ and noted that no representatives from the organization have visited him since the arrest.
