The Detroit Lions defeated the New York Jets 31-24 at Ford Field, improving their season record to 2-1. Jahmyr Gibbs led the Lions with 99 rushing yards on 20 carries and two rushing touchdowns, plus a 65-yard receiving performance that included a decisive 11-yard touchdown reception with 2:25 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Jets, falling to 1-2, staged a late fourth-quarter comeback. Geno Smith connected with Jeremy Ruckert for a touchdown and Garrett Wilson for a 23-yard touchdown catch, followed by a successful two-point conversion to Sterling Shepard to tie the game at 24-all. The Jets’ attempt to tie again was thwarted when Chuck Clark sacked Smith, forcing a fumble that the Lions recovered to seal the win. The game also included a controversial officiating decision regarding a Garrett Wilson touchdown catch that was initially overturned upon review.

Newer reports highlight that the Jets’ offensive line struggled throughout the contest, allowing a total of five sacks. On the injury front, the Jets suffered setbacks as running back Breece Hall left the game in the fourth quarter after grabbing his thigh. Additionally, receiver Garrett Wilson was evaluated for a head injury following a collision but was cleared to play. Prior to the game, the Jets had promoted Sterling Shepard from the practice squad and signed Jamaal Pritchett to the active roster to address depth issues.
