During the NHL preseason, defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker was listed as day-to-day due to an upper-body injury. This status added complexity to the Detroit Red Wings’ defensive roster decisions as the team approached the start of the regular season.

Following his activation from injured reserve on October 8, Bernard-Docker did not appear in an NHL game. Consequently, the Red Wings placed the defenseman on waivers to facilitate an assignment to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
