Governor Mohamed Alwan of Assiut has been conducting inspections of various state-funded development projects within the governorate. 

In mid-September 2026, inspections focused on healthcare infrastructure, specifically the Sahel Sellem Central Hospital. The project, costing 850 million EGP, is over 70% complete and is intended to support the national Universal Health Insurance system. The facility is designed to include 115 beds, specialized medical departments, and a nursing school.

Subsequent inspections expanded to include rural infrastructure and education. This included monitoring sewage projects in the villages of Awlad Ibrahim and Al-Mutia, which involve investments of approximately 214 million EGP to serve 20,000 residents. Alwan emphasized the necessity of completing domestic connections to ensure citizens benefit from these investments. In the educational sector, the Governor reviewed facilities and vocational workshops at the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Primary Al-Azhar Institute.

By late September, inspections shifted toward the operational quality of existing medical facilities, such as the Awlad Ibrahim health unit and the Mutia family medicine center, to ensure the availability of free medications and supplies.

On September 21, 2026, the governorate’s development scope expanded to include administrative and social initiatives. Governor Alwan announced updates to urban boundaries for 30 villages across districts including Assiut, Manfalut, Al Qusiya, Dairut, Al Ghanayem, and Sidfa, in coordination with the General Organization for Physical Planning. Additionally, the governorate’s Population Unit reported conducting 123 activities reaching 16,462 beneficiaries, focusing on reproductive health, illegal migration, cyberbullying, and environmental awareness.
