One account details his professional debut on October 20, 1976, when the 15-year-old played for Argentinos Juniors against Talleres de Córdoba. Maradona later recalled the experience, stating, “One single time in my career I had the sensation of touching the sky with my hands. It was the day of my debut in the First Division.” As the 50th anniversary of this debut approaches, further details have emerged regarding that match in La Paternal. Maradona was brought on as a substitute for Rubén Aníbal Giacobetti by coach Juan Carlos Montes at the start of the second half, wearing the number 16 jersey. Although Argentinos Juniors suffered a 1-0 defeat, Maradona’s talent was immediately evident when he performed a ‘caño’ (nutmeg) on defender Juan Domingo Cabrera during his first touch. The venue where this occurred has since been renamed the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona. This milestone, occurring when Maradona was 15 years, 11 months, and 20 days old, launched a historic career that included stints at Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, and Sevilla, as well as leading the Argentina national team to World Cup glory. Other details have emerged regarding his 1995 return to Boca Juniors. During a match against Colón at La Bombonera, Maradona was surprised on the pitch by his daughters, Dalma and Giannina. While the moment was emotional for fans, reports indicate Maradona initially felt frustration because he wished to maintain professional focus for the match. Following a 1-0 victory, he expressed the difficulty of separating personal emotions from his professional concentration. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: Diego Maradona: 50 years since professional debut Fifty years ago today, a 15-year-old Diego Maradona made his professional debut for Argentinos Juniors, beginning a legendary career that would redefine football history. 18 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/diego-maradona-50-years-since-professional-football-debut ### 2026-10-09: Diego Maradona: New details on his 1995 return to Boca Juniors New accounts detail Diego Maradona’s 1995 return to Boca Juniors, including his reaction to a surprise from his daughters and his professional history with teammate Julio César Saldaña. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/diego-maradona-new-details-on-his-1995-return-to-boca-juniors --- Cite as: Diego Maradona career milestones.
