Japan is seeing an increase in the adoption of digital transformation (DX) services within its childcare and maternal health sectors.

In August 2026, Boshimo Co., Ltd. expanded its digital pregnancy notification support to 22 additional municipalities, bringing the total number of participating local governments to 258. The service uses a maternal and child health handbook app to digitize pregnancy notifications and surveys, aiming to reduce administrative burdens and improve data sharing between residents, municipalities, and medical institutions.

By September 2026, the CoDMON ICT service also saw significant expansion, with 760 municipalities adopting the platform to cover 7,006 public facilities nationwide. This service automates tasks such as attendance recording, shift scheduling, and parent communications in nurseries and after-school clubs. These developments align with the Children and Families Agency’s broader efforts to promote ‘Childcare Policy DX’ and improve operational efficiency through digitalization.

In late September 2026, further localized implementations were reported. Toshima City introduced a pilot program for ‘Jimoyku’, a web-based reservation service that allows residents to book events at eight community hubs without downloading an app. Additionally, Kameoka City in Kyoto Prefecture launched ‘Kame-marutto’, a digital maternal and child health handbook service utilizing the Boshimo application. This service enables parents to manage vaccination schedules, record health data, and access local information via a secure cloud-based backup.
