Serbian municipalities and the national government are expanding social support and employment rights for those assisting children with disabilities and rare diseases.

In late August, municipalities such as Sremska Mitrovica and Prokuplje began formalizing support services. In Sremska Mitrovica, personal assistants for children transitioned to formal employment to provide legal rights like sick leave and annual vacation. Prokuplje allocated nearly 9.8 million dinars to fund assistance for 20 children, focusing on daily activities and school integration.

By early September, the national government announced a new policy to introduce a formal caregiver status for parents of children with rare diseases. Effective October 1, parents receiving certain allowances can apply for this status, which establishes an employment relationship. This includes a monthly allowance of 65,000 dinars, with the state covering taxes and providing access to pension, disability, and health insurance.
