In February, four men from Ixtlahuaca, State of Mexico—identified as Óscar García Hernández, Omar Alexis Ramírez Sabino, Javier Ramírez Sabino, and Gregorio Ramírez Sabino—disappeared while traveling to Mazatlán, Sinaloa. The group of six was reportedly intercepted by armed groups after renting ATVs, which were later found abandoned. While a woman and a child from the group were eventually located, the four men remained missing.

By August, family members and residents began conducting continuous protests at the El Dorado toll booth on the Toluca-Atlacomulco highway. Demonstrators have been lifting toll gates to allow free passage for motorists to pressure authorities for information. Although authorities reported the detention of over a dozen suspects, families claim they have received no information clarifying the victims' whereabouts, and officials have stated there are currently “no solid lines of investigation or definitive clues” regarding their location.
