The Indian Army has debunked a digitally manipulated deepfake video that falsely attributed statements to Lieutenant General Girish Kalia. The video used AI lip-syncing and voice cloning to claim that China had seized control of the Asaphila, Longju, and Taksing areas in Arunachal Pradesh and that Indian troops were being denied essential supplies.

The Army’s fact-checking unit traced the original footage to an October 2023 press briefing in Jammu and Kashmir regarding counter-infiltration operations, noting that Kalia made no mention of Arunachal Pradesh or logistical shortages.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has accused the Congress party of a “treacherous act” for spreading the fabricated content. Rijiju demanded a public apology, stating that the propaganda serves the interests of enemies and aims to damage the image of the Indian Army.
