# Dismantling of Riegos El Progreso façade in Elche

The Elche City Council has initiated the dismantling of the protected neoclassical façade of the Riegos El Progreso building to facilitate the construction of a new municipal building on the site. 

Initial preparatory work involved erecting scaffolding and conducting archaeological and geotechnical studies. Following the August festivals, the dismantling process transitioned into active extraction. Workers are removing architectural elements—including the cornice, frontón, sillares, and zócalo—from the top of the building downward. 

To preserve the historical heritage, each component is being individually identified, numbered, and wrapped before being transported via crane to municipal facilities for storage. These pieces are intended for later re-assembly into the new structure, which aims to house municipal offices and improve the local urban image.
