Sources: 5. Developments: 2. Disney+ and Marvel Television have canceled the Marvel series ‘Wonder Man’ following its first season, despite an earlier renewal for a second season in March 2026. Initial reports attributed the cancellation to viewership and retention metrics. Data from Luminate suggested the series saw a 48% drop-off in viewers between the premiere and the finale, resulting in a 52% retention rate, which fell below the 53% threshold typically considered safe for streaming originals. However, subsequent reports indicated that the series was actually the second most-watched Disney+ original season in the United States based on estimated views and total minutes streamed. These reports also noted that the series reportedly surpassed the industry-standard 50% audience retention benchmark. Lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, a 2026 Primetime Emmy nominee, addressed the decision by noting it appeared to be based on business logic and viewership optics. He described the experience as a ‘celebration of the work’ done by the team. The cancellation occurred despite the planned return of director Destin Daniel Cretton and showrunner Andrew Guest for a second season. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-19: Marvel Television cancels Wonder Man despite high viewership Marvel Television cancelled the Disney+ series ‘Wonder Man’ despite it ranking as one of the platform's most-watched originals and meeting key audience retention benchmarks. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/marvel-television-cancels-wonder-man-despite-high-viewership ### 2026-08-24: Wonder Man canceled by Disney+ despite successful first season Disney+ has canceled the Marvel series Wonder Man due to viewership and retention concerns, despite high critical acclaim and an initial renewal for a second season. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/wonder-man-canceled-by-disney-despite-successful-first-season --- Cite as: Disney+ cancellation of Marvel series Wonder Man.
