Sources: 17. Developments: 2. Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden has addressed the uncertain future of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ amid shifting economic realities in late-night television. While Walden noted that Kimmel is doing a ‘phenomenal job’ and seeing increased ratings, she emphasized that these gains occur within a shrinking broadcast audience. A primary concern involves the disconnect between digital popularity and profitability. Walden stated that while Kimmel’s content achieves millions of views on platforms like YouTube, such digital engagement is ‘not a lucrative opportunity’ compared to traditional broadcast advertising revenue. Kimmel’s current contract is set to expire in May 2027. Although ABC has dismissed reports of his potential cancellation as ‘speculative,’ Walden has declined to confirm whether a renewal will occur, noting the company must balance a ‘deep partnership’ with the host against business necessities. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Disney President addresses future of Jimmy Kimmel Live Disney President Dana Walden discussed the business challenges facing ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, noting that while Kimmel performs well, the declining profitability of late-night broadcast TV complicates future deal 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/disney-president-addresses-future-of-jimmy-kimmel-live ### 2026-10-01: Disney President weighs Jimmy Kimmel’s future amid late-night economic shifts Disney President Dana Walden has left the future of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ uncertain, citing the difficult economics of late-night television and the low profitability of digital views compared to broadcast ads. 14 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/disneys-dana-walden-discusses-jimmy-kimmels-future-amid-late-night-economic-shifts --- Cite as: Disney evaluation of Jimmy Kimmel Live future.
