A study conducted by Rådet for Sikker Trafik and Alm. Brand indicates that young drivers in Denmark exhibit higher levels of tolerance for distracted driving compared to older demographics. Research involving 2,425 drivers found that 14 percent of those aged 25 to 34 and 11 percent of those aged 18 to 24 consider it acceptable to be inattentive while driving, which is significantly higher than the overall average of 6 percent. Common distractions include using handheld mobile phones, interacting with digital vehicle screens, or searching for items.

In contrast, only 2 percent of drivers aged 66 and older view inattention as acceptable. In response, the organizations launched the ‘Blindkørsel’ (Blind Driving) campaign film to highlight the dangers of multitasking, such as attending digital meetings or answering messages. Jakob Bøving Arendt, CEO of the Danish Road Safety Council, noted that even brief lapses in concentration can lead to “devastating consequences” in changing traffic conditions.

Expanding on road safety efforts, the Road Safety Council and GF Fonden are advocating for increased traffic education and the use of personal narratives to reach young people. This follows data from the Danish Road Directorate showing a 15 percent increase in deaths and injuries among teenagers aged 15 to 17 in 2025, primarily involving cyclists and moped riders. Through the ‘Sikker Trafik LIVE’ initiative, individuals affected by traffic accidents visit schools to share experiences regarding the consequences of speeding, distracted driving, and driving under the influence.
